Munshi Explains is a free app and website with short, sourced business stories. We built it to collect as little as possible. This page explains what that means.
What we do not collect
- No account, no sign in, no name, no email address.
- No location, contacts, photos or files.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics or tracking tools in the app, and no third party trackers on the website.
What we do collect, and why
If you turn on notifications, the app sends our notification service three things:
- A push token. This is a random code made by Apple or Google that lets us send a notification to your phone. It does not tell us who you are.
- Which notifications you chose: new videos, new stories, or both.
- Your time zone offset, so we never send a notification at night where you are.
We use these only to send the notifications you asked for. We do not sell them, share them for advertising, or combine them with anything else.
Notifications are delivered through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. Google handles the token only to deliver the message.
Our notification service runs on our own web server at munshiexplains.com. Like any web service it briefly processes your IP address to answer requests. We do not store it.
Saved stories
Stories you save stay on your phone. They are never sent to us.
Videos
Videos play from YouTube only after you tap play. When you do, YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that video (https://policies.google.com/privacy). We use YouTube's privacy enhanced mode.
Deleting your data
Turn notifications off in the app's Settings, or delete the app. Turning them off removes your token from our service straight away. Tokens that stop working are removed automatically. You can also email us to ask.
Children
The app is a general audience app and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
