Short, sourced stories about the startups, family firms and markets of South Asia. How they grew, where the money went, and what the numbers say once the headlines fade.

How we work

Three rules on every page

Sources first

Every figure in a story links back to where it came from, listed in full under each video.

Numbers on screen

When a number is spoken, it is on screen at the same moment, so you can check it as you watch.

No hype

No get rich promises and no rumours about people. Claims about anyone living are always attributed.

About Munshi

Who is Munshi?

In South Asian trading houses, the munshi was the person who kept the books. He wrote down every rupee that came in and every rupee that went out, and he was usually the first to know when something was wrong.

Our Munshi is a calm owl with round spectacles and a ledger. He does not shout and he does not guess. He opens the books, reads what is there, and tells you the story the numbers tell.
